Tuan Lam: Another Asian Poker Player on the Rise

Tuan Lam is a Vietnamese-Canadian poker player. He was born on New Year's Day in 1966 during the Vietnam War. Lam migrated to Canada when he was a young lad at 19. Lam is now residing in Toronto, Canada. Lam is the most recent professional poker player from Vietnam who caught the attention of the poker community by finishing runner up in the Main Event of the 2007 World Series of Poker.

Before turning professional, Tuan was a regular employee at a metal company. He learned poker by playing home games with his friends and gradually honed his skill until he reached the final table of the 2007 WSOP. While working in the metal company, Lam continued his studies. He eventually got a diploma in high school. He wanted to enter college and take up a business course but was short of funds. He applied in several jobs and landed as prop player at a neighborhood card room. This introduced him to real poker games. Each time a table run short of a player, Lam would fill-in and this gave him the opportunity to further develop his poker skill.

Tuan reached the main event final table of the 2007 World Series of Poker by fighting his way against a field of 6,358 participants who paid $10,000 bring-in. Tuan reached the final table's (held at the Las Vegas Rio Hotel and Casino) heads-up play having the second least chips count and gave the eventual champion Jerry Yang a good match. Tuan's extraordinary effort rewarded him with $4,840,981 runner-up prize. Before this event, Tuan appeared in the two previous staging of World Series of Poker. In 2005, he finished at 78th position while the following year, he improved his performance by placing 46th.

Soon after, he became an experienced poker player. Lam engaged in online poker at PokerStars.com. Tuan Lam is an excellent cash player. Lam may not be a popular player but he has other poker skills that he maximizes. He is a regular fixture at Brantford Charity Casino in Brantford, Ontario. Lam is also pre-occupied with his duties at PokerStars.com. He is a member of Team PokerStars.

Lam is living with his wife and two children.
